We are in the region of Veneto, among its most beautiful hills, those that can be seen going from Conegliano Veneto to Collalto di Susegana. Amid these hills you can feel the vibes of history, from the remote and shadowy Middle Ages to the heroic feats of Piave, the river sacred to our land, which flows in wide bends at the hill’s feet.
If you were to live here, there is no doubt you would do something strictly associated to this beautiful place, and do – more than ever – the most exquisite thing existing around here: WINE. On the charming hills of Collalto, in the Pedrè Doline area – subject to strict landscape restriction – lays the Valdellövo farm, managed and cared for by the owners Benedetto and Clotilde Ricci.
The passion for vines and excellent wines is in Benedetto’s DNA: his grandfather Bepi, a pharmacist, devised and promoted the “White Wine Road” that goes from Valdobbiadene to Conegliano. His father, Romano Ricci, in youth directed a winery after studying at Conegliano’s prestigious Oenological School, the first founded in Italy in the late 19th century.
The strong bond with Collalto hills, the family heritage, and the passion for wine, inspired Benedetto to start his adventure, accomplishing a dream of many years. The company, founded with his brother Luca in 2000, today is managed by Benedetto and his wife Clotilde.
The small Valdellövo estate, that still holds 2 hectares (about 4.9 acres) of original vines, offers wines produced exclusively with its own grapes. In the past years, 8 hectares (about 19.7 acres) of new vineyards have been planted – using clones of the original vines – adding up to 10 hectares (about 24.7 acres) of wine growing. The vineyards are conceived so that to each grape, and thus to the wine, is conveyed the uniqueness of the soil and of the hill’s microclimate.
Thanks to Benedetto’s passion, and essentially to his professional skills, Valdellövo creates high-quality Prosecco that every year provides excellent results. The quality of the grapes grown on the estate is superb, particularly Glera, Bianchetta and Verdiso.
Tradition, history and culture of this area, and also that of its inhabitants, translate into Prosecco. Spending our time creating another wine is an opportunity for growth and enrichment. We believe that wine is the result of a dialogue between man and land, of a mutual weighing and respect. Based on this belief, besides the Glera vines which are the base of Prosecco D.O.C. (Controlled Designation of Origin) and D.O.C.G. (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin), we have started the experimentation with other vineyards, that may translate into a diverse expression of our land.
To compare the Prosecco to other sparkling white wines means to lessen its indisputable unique essence. Prosecco is a wine that thrives on its vibrant freshness. It is pleasing and refined. And it is only capable to offer emotions that are as unique as the mood of this land and of the men who cultivate it.
